In World War II we had some major technological advances that helped in the war. As far as weaponry goes they introduced new kinds of ships, aircraft, rockets, vehicles and the most significant would be atomic and nuclear weapons. There was also new transporting supplies such as trains, ships, trucks and new navigation services.

Vimy Ridge was the most significant because they gained a lot of ground and lost a lot fewer lives then all the other battles. It really showed that they were uniting in countries. General Julian Byng was in charge of soldiers and made them train so they knew what they were supposed to do with new tactics instead of old tactics and they ended up winning the war.
England was happy about there victory until they were scolded by Winston Churchill that "wars are not won by executions." With the conditions that the British were in they felt there only option was to retreat. A war has never been won by evacuation but preferred by cowardly solders. He didn't want them to feel like they did the right thing from backing out and they should not consider themselves heroes.
The movie "Saving Private Ryan" is a film taking place during World War II on D-Day. The American troops try to save this Private Ryan because he has lost his brothers in combat and they think that they should get him back to his family because he's the only son they have left, James Ryan feels he should still try and support his country and fight in the Bridge battle and he seems to not be to shaken by the fact his brother were killed in combat because they were killed in defense of their country. He makes the decision to go back home after the D-day battle is over. |
