summary
The Maginot line was built to repel any invasion from Germany. Stretching across most of the border between France and Germany. It was literally an immovable object, so thick and deep and strong that it was almost impossible to breach. The Maginot line succeeded in its job. Germany was never able to punch through the line. Unfortunately for France, Germany didn't try. They simply flanked the works, cutting through Belgium and bypassing it except to mop up the defenders. The problem of the Maginot line was the mentality it instilled. It gave the French commanders a false sense of security. It utilized massive amounts of funding and resources to build,. Had It been extended all the way along the border to the coast, the Maginot line might today be known as one of the great military works of history
