summary
The Spanish monarchy was overthrown and a provisional government took power. The government had became increasingly divided between the socialists of the extreme left and the monarchists of the extreme right. Generals Goded, Mola, and Francisco Franco disagreed with the leftist efforts at army reform, and viewed with distaste the violence and anarchy which reigned in the streets of Spain. They decided to overthrow the government.
