The Nazi's had an active hatred of the Jewish people and promoted their death. It was likely the political and social factors that allowed it to occur. Germany was in a state of economic disaster. Hitler then rose to power. Several years of active propaganda against Jews likely had a dramatic impact on the average German's opinion of the Jewish people. If not active hatred, Nazi propaganda most likely installed in the average German a general distrust of the Jewish people. This provided a firm basis upon which Nazis could begin their campaign against the Jews, either with the average German's blessing or indifference. The Nazi's were not actively advertising what they ac were actually doing to the Jews. Many people thought the Jews were being deported or taken away to work. Not everyone in Germany was fully aware that the Jews were in fact being slaughtered by the millions in Nazi concentration camps. The Nazi's also even before the Holocaust took place were degrading the Jews.
The Weimer republic had many issues coming its way when it first started up. One of the problems was Hyperinflation, it was caused because of the need to pay the war reparations. People were refusing to work leading to unemployment all over the area. People were starting to get mad that they followed the Treaty of Versailles, they began to think the governments constitution was its downfall. It made them all have to take responsibility for the war by having to pay these massive reparations. The leader during the first years of the Weimer Republic was Friedrich Ebert. By the German workers all going on a strike, they ended up saving the Weimer republic from the Kapp Putsch, witch was trying to destroy it.
We watched the movie "Life is Beautiful" which is an Italian movie about a comical Jewish man who falls in love with a women who is about to be wed, but they sneak off together and end up having a son and living happily in Italy under German forces. They get taken to a Nazi prison death camp, and he tries to protect his son from the horrors of this death camp with humorous things to keep him occupied. The movie is comical in the way that Guido tries to make his son have a good time and want to win the "game" so he can get a real Tank. I enjoyed the movie except it was just a little hard to follow at some parts because it wasn't in English. |
