Russia had gone down hill after the Russian civil war. Lenin was the leader of the Bolsheviks and founder of communist government in Russia. Communism did change Russia in a good way. Lenin wanted to redistribute land, nationalize all banks, and take away private accounts. He had started creating enemies towards the Bolshieviks. Lenin was shot in 1921 so now there was an extreme power struggle with Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. There was a famous debate called "Guns or Butter." Trotsky wanted consumers goods while Stalin wanted a big industry. Stalin ended up being the successful one so he modernized Russia.

The Feb./ March revolution was a bread riot that went out of control. There was no leader no political development or movement controlled it. Some factories went on strike and soon all the city workers went on strike. The Tsar Nicholas II was on eastern front so the soilders were sent to deal with the strikers. The october/ November revolution was much more organised. Lenin had learnt a great deal from the other revolutions. Lenin said on the night of the October Revolution that the moment may slip away from them unless they acted decisively and acted now then he ordered the Provisional Government's headquarters, the Winter Palace, to be stormed. They ended up being able to give the Russian citizans food and gave them everything they beckoned for. So the government remained in power.
Enemy at the Gates is a movie made to solely recreate the feeling of WW11 with Russia and Germany in war in the Battle of Stalingrad. A young Russian sniper finds himself on the front lines of the battle fields and one of the most wanted men that the Germans want to kill. Particularly by one German sniper who goes head to head with Vasili Zaystev, the Russian sniper. The movie showed all aspects of the life as a solider and a villager living in Stalingrad. The real battle of Stalingrad was against the Nazi's and the Soviet union. It was one of the bloodiest battles in history. Vasili Zaystev was a hero to Russia and the Soviet union during the second world war. |
